Design center showrooms join toy drive for children

Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas is encouraging people to brighten the holidays of foster and adopted children this season by dropping off donated holiday gifts through Nov. 15. In exchange, participating showrooms are offering as much as 20 percent off merchandise to those who bring in a toy valued at $25 or more.

The toy drive is spearheaded by Nourison, located in showroom C112, which has partnered with the Clark County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, Clark County Department of Family Services and nightclub owner Victor Drai to ensure that every child receives a gift this holiday season.

“The toy drive is an important event for the foster children of Clark County because it speaks volumes about how much our community cares about its children,” said André Wade, Clark County’s foster parent recruitment supervisor. “Even during high unemployment rates and a down economy, people and companies like Las Vegas Design Center still come together to think about others in need.”

Randy Wells, vice president of the design center, said he was delighted when one of the showroom managers presented the opportunity to get involved with the toy drive.

“We enthusiastically support Nourison for being the leader in this toy drive. This is a wonderful opportunity for Las Vegas Design Center to make sure that thousands of children around the city have a safe and happy holiday season,” said Wells. “In turn, we’re thrilled by the generosity of participating showrooms. By offering discounts to qualified participants, they too are helping strengthen the fabric of Las Vegas.”

Nourison showroom manager Catalina Pericon said the issue of fostering and adoption is close to her heart. In the last year, she has adopted four children and has been heavily involved with the Clark County Department of Family Services.

“These children have faced numerous challenges growing up and the holidays are a time to put cheer and positive memories into their life,” she said. “Along with the other members of Clark County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association, we can only do so much. Thankfully Las Vegas Design Center has been a wonderful partner to us and to the community and because of them, 3,000 children will have wonderful holiday memories this season.”

The public is encouraged to drop off unwrapped, new toys for children from infancy to age 18 at participating showrooms . Discounts vary by showroom and range from 5 to 20 percent.

Las Vegas Design Center at World Market Center Las Vegas is located at 495 Grand Central Parkway, and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
